Swimming Pool Solar Systems

The energy management is via a differential thermostat that only allows water to flow through the panel when there is sufficient heat available. This controls a three position valve or small dedicated pump.

You require aproximatly 70% of your surface area of the pool to heat your pool with this type of panel 4-7’c above what it would be without any other heating, provided a thermal cover is being used.

In answer to the always asked question, "Do I install glass tube solar system, flat plastic solar panels or a air to water heat pump to heat my pool?"...

Solar energy is the only energy that is almost free of running costs it only requires a small circulator pump.

Glass tube system
Glass tube systems of which there are many makes, are very good but quite expensive to install. They are what to chose if you are going to use the solar system to heat domestic hot water as well as your pool. Although the amount of energy in the winter is quite limited the way some of the systems are controlled gives some warm water but at very low flow rates

Heat pumps air to water type
These systems are very efficient in warm weather, but the efficiency (the amount you get out for the amount you put in) is not very good in early spring and late autumn - but you are still paying for 30-40 % of the energy that goes into your pool and electricity is more expensive than gas per KWH.

Various makes of un-glassed solar panels have been used in the UK for 30 years and have saved vast amounts of energy with a summer use outdoor swimming pool. Un-glazed solar panels will make a major reduction in your heating costs. All alternative energy systems are best used to back up an existing heating system on existing pools. It is very important that if you have an outdoor pool boiler that an auto bypass system is fitted when not actually heating as these boilers can actually cool a pool when not lit.

Flat plastic solar panels
We believe that this system will give you very good value for money and a warmer pool at a reduced cost.

We can supply for DIY but electrical work must be done by Part P approved electrician or, in many areas, we can provide you with details of local installers.

The panels are available in black or roof red (please note that the red is very slightly less efficient)

Panels will give 0,5 to 0.6 KH per hour per square metre. Each panel is approx 1M square
